Brow Lift, Botox and Dermal Fillers Around the Eyes
The brows, eyelids and surrounding face work together. A heavy brow can make the upper eyelids look hooded, so treating the eyelids alone does not always give the expected result. Our consultant in oculoplastic surgery assesses the whole area before recommending a plan. For eyelid skin surgery (blepharoplasty), see the Eyelid Surgery page.
Aesthetic treatments are elective. We aim for natural, proportionate results and explain honestly what each treatment can and cannot achieve. Results differ from person to person.
Who it's for
- A low or heavy brow that makes the eyes look tired or hooded, for which a brow lift may be discussed.
- Frown lines, forehead lines and crow's feet, which may soften with Botox injections.
- Selected areas of lost volume or hollowness, for which dermal fillers may be an option.
- Adults in good general health with realistic expectations. Treatment is usually postponed during pregnancy and breastfeeding, and with active skin infection in the area.
How it works
- Consultation: a facial and eyelid examination, and a discussion of your goals, medical history and medications. Photographs are taken only for your medical record and only with your written consent.
- Botox: small injections into specific muscles. The effect usually appears over several days and gradually wears off over a few months.
- Dermal fillers: a gel, commonly based on hyaluronic acid, is injected in small amounts to restore volume. The effect is temporary and its duration varies.
- Brow lift: a surgical procedure to raise and support the brow, performed under anaesthesia.
Recovery
- After Botox or fillers, mild redness, swelling or bruising at the injection points is common and usually settles within days. Avoid rubbing or massaging the area unless advised.
- After a brow lift, swelling and bruising usually last one to two weeks, and the final result takes several months to settle.
- Possible risks include bruising, asymmetry, infection and, with Botox, temporary drooping of the eyelid or brow. With fillers, lumps can occur. Rarely, a filler can block a blood vessel (vascular occlusion), which can cause skin damage or, rarely, loss of vision.
- Any change in vision after an injection needs emergency care immediately: go to the nearest emergency department or call 112, without waiting for a reply from the clinic or on WhatsApp. Increasing pain or a change in skin colour (pale, dusky or mottled skin) near the injection site also needs urgent medical assessment.
Frequently asked questions
How long does Botox last?
The effect usually lasts a few months and then wears off gradually. Repeat treatment is optional.
Are fillers permanent?
The fillers commonly used around the face are temporary and are gradually broken down by the body. How long they last varies between people and areas.
Do I need a brow lift or eyelid surgery?
It depends on whether the heaviness comes from the brow, the eyelid skin or both. This is assessed at your consultation.
Will people notice I had treatment?
We aim for results that look natural and in proportion with your face. Expected changes are discussed beforehand, but individual results vary.
What should I do if my vision changes after a filler injection?
Treat it as an emergency. Go to the nearest emergency department immediately or call 112. Do not wait for a reply from the clinic or on WhatsApp.
