It is linked to long-term sun, wind and dust exposure, which makes it common in hot, sunny climates such as Kuwait.<\/p>\n<p>We also assess and treat other conditions of the eye surface (the cornea and conjunctiva), including growths that need removal and testing.<\/p>\n<h2>Who it&#x27;s for<\/h2>\n<ul>\n  <li>A pterygium that is growing towards the centre of the cornea or affecting vision by causing astigmatism.<\/li>\n  <li>A pterygium that causes repeated redness and irritation despite drops.<\/li>\n  <li>Cosmetic concern about a visible growth, after discussing the benefits and the risk of recurrence.<\/li>\n  <li>Any new or changing growth on the eye surface, which should be examined and may need a biopsy.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>How it works<\/h2>\n<ol>\n  <li>Assessment: an eye examination, and sometimes corneal scans to measure the effect on vision.<\/li>\n  <li>Surgery: usually under local anaesthesia. The pterygium is removed, and the area is often covered with a small graft of your own conjunctiva to reduce the chance of it growing back.<\/li>\n  <li>Other surface growths are removed and sent for laboratory examination when needed.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h2>Recovery<\/h2>\n<ul>\n  <li>Redness, a foreign-body sensation and watering are common for one to two weeks.<\/li>\n  <li>Use your drops as instructed by your surgeon, often for several weeks; following the schedule closely helps reduce recurrence.<\/li>\n  <li>Wear sunglasses outdoors and avoid dusty environments while healing, and long term where possible.<\/li>\n  <li>A pterygium can grow back in some cases, and follow-up visits help detect this early.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Frequently asked questions<\/h2>\n<div class=\"pv-faq\">\n  <details>\n    <summary>Is a pterygium dangerous?<\/summary>\n    <p>A pterygium is not cancer.
